We all are aware that ‘breast is best’ when it comes to feeding your baby but we understand that breast feeding isn’t always possible so are you a new mum who just isn’t sure what type of formula you should feed your baby? There are so many different types on the market that it can be hard to choose which one is best for your baby. You should know that there is 2 different types, ready to use and powdered. You may be thinking 2? that is not a lot to choose from but there are a whole load of makes and types, some are lactose free, for hungry babies, soya formula, goats milk formula and many more types. So which is best for your baby? We have looked at a few different types to try and help you to make this decision.
First infant formula
First infant formula is suitable from birth and will provide your baby with the nutrients that he/she needs in the first year of life and according to the advice of doctors and midwives this should always be the first milk that you give your baby when they are born if you are not breast feeding. The cows’ milk in formula contains two types of proteins – whey and casein. First infant formula is said to be easier to digest as it is based on whey protein.
Goats milk formula
Goats milk formula is suitable from birth but always seek advice from your doctor or midwife before giving your baby this type of formula. They are made with most of the same nutrients that are contained in the first infant formula. It is said that goats milk formula will cause less allergies but this is untrue as your child can have the same reaction as with cow’s milk formula.
Soya formula is only suitable from 6 months onwards and i would always say to seek advice from your doctor before giving this type of milk to your baby. This type of milk is great for those babies who do have a cow’s milk allergy as this is made from soy beans.
