Find out what's on in and around St Albans for you and your young children. We've tried to list all the one off family fun and child friendly events in the area, that are suitable for babies, toddlers, preschool & reception children but if you can think of others please let us know. We always appreciate any suggestions of things to do in the area.

Summer Holidays begin!


Sat 24th July - Cloudy with a chance of meatballs(U) - Maltings Arts Theatre

Based on a picture book this animated movie tells the story of a town called Chewandswallow.
The sky provides all the means be it soup rain, mashed potato snow or hot dogs blowing in  at five miles per hour.

Sat 24th July - Highfield Park - Summer Fete

A day of family fun in the Park. Fairground rides, coconut shy, craft and gift stalls, live entertainment, beer tent, plant stall, food plus lots more fun. Free Entry 2pm-6pm. Located on the Village Green and Cricket Ground.

24th July to 5th Sept - Summer Spectacular - Willows Farm Village

Make sure you find your way out from our A-maize-ing Maze in time to take part in our popular traditional sports day races. There’s all day family entertainment with a packed programme of activities and events.

Sun 25th July - It's a Knockout! - In aid of NACC (Colitis & Chrohn's) - Old Albanian's Rugby Ground, Harpenden Road

Charity event full of fun also includes Tom Jones Tribute, Bouncy Castle, Children's games and Face Painting. Opens to the public at 11:30 event finshes 4pm.

 £3 entry on the gate, children under 16 go free!

 

Sun 25th July - Sunday Stories - Museum of St Albans

Storytime sessions for under 7s. Every last Sunday of the month 3-4pm.

National Archeology Month -  Mr Benn Gladiator puts on armour and goes back in time.  Come for stories; try on armour and other activities.

Cost £1.00 ( All sessions free to members of the St Albans Children's Book Group on production on membership card).

Sun 1st Aug - Robin Hood - Children's Theatre in the Park - Hatfield House

Cambridge Touring Theatre presents their very funny musical romp through the world of Robin Hood, Friar Tuck, the Sherriff of Nottingham and Maid Marian. !  Held in the Park, please bring low backed seating or rugs. Picnics welcome. The performance starts at 3pm and will take place regardless of weather conditions.

7th Aug - Honey Day - The Natural History Museum Tring
A day for children and adults alike, Honey Day is back for its second year. Find out about the nature on your doorstep with local beekeepers and wildlife organisations. Sample some local produce, have your face painted or try out some craft activities and our free trail for children. Free event suitable for all ages.

Wed 11th Aug - The Lucky Gingerbread Man - Stockwood Discovery Park
The Magic Book Theatre presents a puppet show for young children about a gingerbread man. This popular show uses table top puppets, shadow puppets and everyday objects for imaginative storytelling. The show lasts approximately 30 minutes and is suitable for children from 2–5 years.
Shows start at 10.45am and 11.30am - £3 per child.

Wildlife-themed activities for ages 3 and upwards! Explore and learn. Held in the extensive garden, but some activities are under cover. No charge for activities, however normal admission charges apply. There will be a variety of activities, including crafts, trails, stories and bug-hunts. Bring outdoor clothing, footwear and a picnic. 12pm - 5pm

Fri 20-Sun 22nd Aug - Hatfield House Country Show

Sat 21st Aug - Teddy Bears picnic - Lydekker Park Harpenden
If you go down to Lydekker Park between 11.00 am- 2.00pm, you are sure of a big surprise as this is the date of the sixth Annual Teddy Bears Picnic. The Park will be alive with Teddy Bears and their young owners, hopefully making the most of the sun and the free entertainment on offer.Why don't you join the Town Mayor and be entertained by 'Smartie Artie' who will be performing two shows, a bouncy castle, and also have your face painted?
