Breastfeeding Advice and Support
Breastfeeding is widely acknowledged to be best for baby and provides all the nutrients your baby needs during their first 6 months, it also helps protect against infection and disease. Health benefits for mum include the reduced risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.
Not that breastfeeding is always that easy !.! With trouble latching on, cracked/sore nipples, and occasionally being asked to leave premises for feeding in public?!?
Hence the increasing amount of support available for new mum's. We've listed some websites below that may be useful. Your health visitor should also be aware of local breastfeeding cafes and support groups so it is worth speaking to them too and in the very early days your midwife should be a great support.
Recently the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID) found that breasfeeding also reduces the risk of Cot death, for further information go to http://www.fsid.org.uk/breastfeeding-news.html
