Courses | NCT Early Days | The next NCT Early Days courses are running on: 1. Friday 8th January 2010 (for 6 weeks) from 12.30-2.30pm at the Sopwell and Verulam Children's Centre, St Albans – facilitated by Nicola Norton 2. Friday 19th February 2010 (for 6 weeks) from 10am-12 noon at Postnatal Leader's home (St Albans) – facilitated by Sarah Beasley The NCT Early Days Postnatal Courses are for mums of babies up to six months old. The same mums (and babies!) attend for about two hours each week for six consecutive weeks. Unlike most things with a new baby, the courses are mother-focused and are there to provide you with a forum to talk about how you are finding early parenthood. You do not need to be a member of the NCT to attend - all NCT courses and services are available to everyone - but places are limited and must be booked.The groups are led by a trained NCT Postnatal Leader and you will have a chance to discuss various topics, such as:- Changing relationships - Expectations vs Realities of parenthood - Modern motherhood - Sleeping and crying - Returning to work - or not?The topics are chosen by the group in the first session so each course is tailored to suit the mums attending.The cost is £82, although discounts may be available if you are on a low income. It's a very informal group, just drop in, no charge, and tea, coffee and biscuits. There are lots of toys for once you have your baby too. Sometimes we have guest speakers who talk for 10 minutes or so about subjects like baby massage or accupuncture in pregnancy. You do not need to be a member of the NCT to attend. It's every Friday, even during school holidays, but not on bank holidays. We are in Room 77 which is on the first floor (there is a lift!) There is parking at the Centre. The Children's Centre is the large building at the Catherine St end of Church Crescent. |

Courses for parents and parents to be include:- Antenatal (Standard, Intensive) All antenatal courses cover preparation for birth and parenthood. Most include a reunion which takes place after all the babies are born. These courses are generally for parents expecting their first babies. Antenatal (Refresher/Short) Refresher courses are for those who have already had at least one baby. They offer a chance to reflect and build on past birth experiences and prepare yourself for looking after your new baby. It also provides a great opportunity for you to meet other mums in a similar position. Bump to Baby (Perinatal) These classes contain Antenatal, Breastfeeding and Postnatal discussion Early days (Postnatal) These courses cover the expectations and the reality of parenthood, Ideas for settling a crying baby, Getting the most out of the day and returning to work (or not). Some drop in sessions may also be available.
